Direct Health First (DHF)

Direct Health First was set up in 2004 to provide strategic health care support built on subject matter expertise.

We wanted to distinguish DHF from consultancies which work from a commercial perspective. We wanted instead to come at challenges from a sustainable clinical perspective while maintaining a solid commercial grounding.

We were concerned that too often, consultancies overlooked clinical realities and downgraded threats which would too often resurface once the projects were in their execution phase. We wanted to avoid simplistic and generic models which, while well suited to retail and finance were undermined by mistaken assumptions about the way patients and clinicians behaved.

Why DHF?

My experience, as a MD of a listed company and as a senior civil servant in Whitehall gave me concerns about the paradigms used by traditional commercial consultancies where, as the saying goes, they know the price of everything, but the value of none.

Instead of using managers to tell you what doctors, nurses and health care specialists need, DHF uses first hand clinical expertise from a wide and appropriate range of clinical disciplines, backed up by analytic and management skills to give a sharper analysis of the challenges facing the service and investors who underwrite the risks.

Our subject matter experts have worked at executive level in health care and understand both the clinical and commercial challenges in achieving significant change.
